I could write a thesis on the subject of hypnosis and weight loss. The short answer is yes. Now I need to share some experiences that I’ve had when people came to me wanting to lose weight.
In many cases the people who want to lose weight just need a push to get off the sofa, examine their eating habits, look at their lifestyle and decide how they can adapt their routine to help lose weight.
There are other people who have much deeper issues connected to their weight and it may not be as simple as exercise and changing eating habits. Some examples include a sexual abuse victim who subconsciously made herself "fat and ugly" (her words) "to make sure she wasn’t attractive anymore". Another female client discovered that she resented her partner for wanting her to be slim. During parts therapy a part declared that "he should love me for who I am not how I look". A male client had subconsciously made himself fat and unattractive to save his marriage. His subconscious had percieved that while he was away on business trips he had been tempted to cheat on his wife. He doubted his "resolve, when offers were being made" and decided that if he was overweight he would be less likely to attract any female attention.
I guess what I’m trying to demonstrate is that while hypnosis is fantastic for helping with weightloss and motivation, sometimes it isn’t just simply being overweight and other issues must be resolved at the same time.
